Aha! There’s something to be said about “fresh off the boat Maine lobster.” The cold, clean waters off coastal Maine bring lobster devotees the finest and sweetest and most succulent lobsters anywhere.
When you drive along the lovely Maine coast on Route 1 or even Route 1-A, you will come across many Lobster Shacks and the occasional Lobster Pound. Here you are able to enjoy the ultimate fresh lobster meal or the most delectable clams. There’s nothing fancy at the Shacks – it’s dining at its freshest and most scrumptious – and ambiance comes from the sea or the sea birds and other diners with everyone enjoying food served on paper plates. You’ll be seated at picnic tables and delight in your meal – in Maine this is a time honored eating style and tradition.
Maine is great for traditions. Besides eating a down-home lobster meal at the Shack, another incredibly yummy way to get your fill of lobster and all the fixin’s is to attend a Maine Lobster Bake. Oh yes! Sit back with the goods that include the lobster, mussels and clams, Maine potatoes, and corn on the cob. Done right and in the traditional way, you’ll also get smoked Kielbasa, layered seaweed between each goody, giving off its own unique salty freshness.

Right now, Maine is going into its prime lobster season. It is the time of harvest. More Maine lobsters are harvested in fall than any other season.
Restaurants have come up with imaginative ways to eat lobster such as lobster salad, lobster bisque, pizza with lobster, and even lobster shortcake. A great place to visit, online, for lobster lovers is lobsterfrommaine dot com and learn all you can about this crustacean and find lots of excellent recipes.

Top-level comments on this article: (2 total)WOW, that makes me hungry! The Clam Bakes, and Lobster is one of the things I miss the most about the Northeast. We can get it here, but it's NOT the same. That is one of the New England, and especially Maine, delights. Clam Bakes, Lobster Shacks - easy living and traditional New England. Heaps of good times.
I've been living in Florida for 14 years now. But I was born and raised in southern Maine so believe me I had my share of lobsters, steamed clams and all sorts of fresh sea food.Well, from Maine to Florida. I dearly love Maine. I like the four seasons, but only as a visitor in winter. Never ever would want to actually brave a Maine winter. Love the "Maneacs" though! No wonder you're good folk!
