It’s a holistic approach but you can get positive results. I know that pressure applied to the temples aid in eliminating throbbing headaches. I’ve also heard of other tips that offer quick relief for minor irritating maladies.
I have used these easy techniques myself and I believe they give relief. See what you think.
Here are five pressure points and the associated benefit. When you apply pressure, do not press until you cause yourself pain – simply put steady pressure on the points and hold for a couple of minutes. Use only the tips of your fingers or, if you have long nails, use the pads of your fingers.
Before you start, it helps assure effectiveness when the fingers and fingertips are warm, so rub your hands together for a half minute or so. Or, run hot water over the hands until they feel pleasantly warm. Then you are ready to place fingertips on pressure points.
Try these acupressure remedies:
For a headache - A – press the temples (“Taiyang Points”). These annoying throbbers are often caused by tension or constricted blood vessels in your head. Use your index and middle fingers and apply firm pressure to each temple. Maintain this pressure and even make tiny rubbing rotations, without lifting the fingers, in that specific area for two continuous minutes. This will relax and loosen up the blood vessels that are causing the headache. This method affects only the headache, whereas medications affect the entire body.
I can personally attest to this method – it is effective and brings quick relief.
For turning off cravings - C – press above the upper lip (“Renzhong Point”). I recently learned about this pressure point, located between the nose and the upper lip, to help pause, stop or eliminate incessant food desires. Use your thumb and index finger. Briskly pinch the spot under the nose and just above the lip. Repeat 30 times. You can expect the cravings to greatly reduce or disappear entirely.
For sluggishness or feeling tired - E – press on both sides of the bridge of the nose “Jingming”). The correct pressure points are the two spots located
In China this acupoint is used to treat nearsightedness and night blindness.
For easing stress - B – press in the middle between the eyebrows “Yintang Point”). This is the primary gathering point of facial nerves and also head and eyes nerves. Use index finger and middle finger. Press firmly for 30 seconds to relieve tension in your face. It will also lessen pressure in the sinuses. Repeat occasionally throughout the day to break up tension.
Studies show that this is a powerful acupoint. Pressure applied here is very calming.
For congestion and stuffiness - D – press behind each nostril. According to the American Journal of Rhinology, using this acupoint to treat chronic sinus and nasal stuffiness results in a 99 percent effectiveness rate. Use your index fingers for two minutes and press on the points behind both nostrils. It will open nasal passages, relieve congestion and may even drain the sinuses.
So, don’t just forget these simple techniques. Try them. If you need to do them in front of the mirror, that’s great. You can use a strong vapor for a stuffy nose when applying stimulation to the acupoint - add a tiny bit of Vicks VapoRub to the fingertips to aid in opening up nasal passages quickly.
Simple, easy and relaxing. Learn to do these techniques effectively and find quick relief.

Top-level comments on this article: (4 total)Great advice. A few of these pressure points are used when they give you a facial. Thanks for giving this info, as I saw a couple I could use.
Heidi, I was just talking to a Cosmetician, she was telling me about sitting with (elbows on the knees) putting my hands on my eyes, (the bones around) and pressing with the heels of my hands and palms. Also said after that to knead around the outside of my face. Said I must have a slugglish lymph system because of the bags under my eyes.
Thanks for the diagram. I`ll save this information!Hope you're trying it and will let us know if it works. Thanks too for sharing this.
Bags Under eyes bags get more common with age, I think. They're probably also due to the weakening of muscles around the eye and fat deposits that may settle under the eyes. If eyes swell top or bottom or both, that's probably due to fluid. I don't think it's a problem medically. It's an appearance thing. I know that compresses - always cold - will help reduce any swelling. It's a temporary fix but can help. Of course, we all know about the cucumber and also the tea bag on each eye - they help provided they are cold. It's probably the application of the cold that does most of the work though.
I appreciate you taking the time to read and giving comments. The headache thing and relaxation thing helps me. If it's placebo effect, I don't care. I like it.
Thanks, I'll try itThanks Jack. That's all we can do. I know the headache points work. Takes a couple of times when the throbbing is bad. I do the pressure and then use a compress and relax for a while. If I fall asleep, all the better. Then the headache is always gone after a little power nap.I've developed skill at imaging- thinking the pain away, but also would like thisThat's a great skill. Mind over matter. You're ahead of the game with that ability.
Didn't know it was that easy. I'm not feeling tired anymore when I wake up. The other points are also tested and approved. good article here folks, give it a tryKevin, I very much appreciate your stopping by and reading my article about acupoints. When I learned these particular points, I was skeptical but have since used the temples and stress whenever there has been a need. I find that it helps to have warm fingers - that is probably because I find that more soothing to my personal likes. I also use a fair amount of pressure. Thanks for your kind comment.
