New Year resolution that I intend to keep

I have lived through many a new year. Each has brought with it much happiness and a fair share of tribulations. I have survived everything thus far and I intend to keep on peddling to achieve additional new years. I say to you, “I am woman. Hear me roar!”
Just kidding, of course. That’s just my way of getting your attention –
You see, my point is that I will make this resolution a sort of public proclamation. If I put it out there, with you as my witnesses, I will become more empowered by well-wishing while at the same time, I cannot embarrass myself by fizzling out before I reach positive results. I will be accountable by anyone of you who might ask, “Well, now, Old Mare, how are you doing with your one, single, solumnly promised resolution?”
What can I possibly say? It’s either a good, resounding and desirable answer or a weak, woes to me, mea culpa.

Let me say simply that I’m not one to bet against myself, nor am I one that idly promises anything. I go to great lengths to keep promises made. You know, burn the midnight oil, dig deeper, reach into reserve powers – I’ll do whatever I can to make things happen. Always have. Now with all this buildup and hoopla, I must say that I don’t like to fail. I detest failure and was taught from infancy to be the best that I can be. I do not intend to fail. Furthermore, putting it out here, into the internet world, means that I’d be embarrassed for the ages if I failed.
You ask, “What the devil are you building us up for, Old Mare?”
OK laugh if you want. My scary resolution is – drumroll please – I WILL LOSE WEIGHT IN 2012. IT MUST BE IN EXCESS OF 45 POUNDS!
Yeah, I know that’s a lot of weight. I’ve been a bad Old Mare, what can I say. At the same time, I must say that I’m not fat, just a mite plump. I prefer to use the word “curvy” (teeheehee grin). There, now that sounds better to me.

All kidding aside and speaking seriously. I just wrote about joints becoming endangered from too much weight. That means me in my present state, too. Guess it’s time to stop the “good life”, get off the PC chair and get busy with my own chores and horses. Work, exercise, go to the pool, develop better eating habits. The life I save may very well be my own!
I’m becoming a believer. Have been for some time. But, being so busy all the time, I’ve gotten great with the excuses. Enough - Now I’ve got lots of witnesses.
Loathe to fail on this one.

Top-level comments on this article: (7 total)lol........Gray Mare .Great write after a while. This cheers me up. "Curvy" is the sexy word so not to upset the mind. Good new year's resolution though.I like the definition for "curvy" and I'm glad you're cheered up. I always promised myself I'd never become "matriarchal" but I'd say I am now. Gotta get rid of the pounds. The goal is set for the year - certainly I'm gonna get it done this time. Happy New Year Hilda and thanks so much for reading.
good luck- I lost 40 lbs a few yrs ago--all I had to do was cut out 1,200 calories a day from beer.Hmmm - beer - Won't work for me but I do like my chocolate bars now and then. I also love Brie cheese and Pistachios. Good bye to them and hello less calories. I'll do it this time! So glad you read and commented. Missed you lots. Happy New Year.
Good Luck, Heidi. If losing weight is your wish, then I also wish it for you. Happy New Year!I've got to get serious about it. I don't like the way I look and I don't like how I feel either. It's high time I get it done. Thanks for the luck. It's not an impossible task, but it is most definitely my task.
Good to have you back - Boomer. Very good article, not only filled with resolve but self-love, humor - the necessary elements.Good to be back. Hope I can divide my time a bit better this year. Too many demands on me. I' grateful for your support and wonderful comment. Most appreciated.
Hi Heidi.
Bernd decided a few months back that he wanted to lose some weight. But he has a hard time giving up his goodies. :) So he has substituted working out twice a day instead of just once. Although he has missed a few here and there. :)
Losing weight isn't always easy ... but I'm not trying to give you an excuse. :) My best advice is to try to have fun with it. Don't ask me how though. :)
Hugs,
DianneFunny thing is that I can be good almost all day. Then at evening time, after dinner, I feel some cravings. Nothing really bad for me except I don't use my willpower to say no. So I'm just not going to have anything home to eat that I want. That'll work. My real problem is that I do not drink enough water. Without proper hydration, I'll never get rid of the extra pounds. We'll see if Bernd does better than me in the long haul.
I give you credit for 'putting it out there'. I struggle to come up with resolutions and when I do I totally keep them to myself. I wish you all the best with your resolution Heidi. I will give you a tip (if you want it). Watch The Biggest Loser each week. It's inspiring, and not just for those wanting to lose weight, but for anyone who has any issues they want to overcome. I rarely get through an episode with dry eyes. Good luck and keep us posted!!!!Thanks Brianna. Biggest Loser is an amazing show and one where everybody is a winner in my book. They work and struggle and fast. Amazing and rigorous. I don't plan on making it that hard for myself. The goal I have set is way easier I think. The poundage I'm aiming to lose should come off in time with smaller portions, more exercise and lots of water. Last year I dropped 20 pounds plus and felt so much better. I had to put it out there because I need the pressure. If I say it to myself, I'll squinch out of it. This way I'll embarrass myself if I don't work hard at it. Resolutions are only good if we keep them. You probably have nothing much to resolve so just be you and enjoy life. Keep making us happy with your great humor and stories. Happiest of years ahead!
I have faith in you Heidi...by summer we'll be ready and fit for all that's fun. I'll be walking a lot, and climbing stairs up and down, a lot... You will succeed, I have no doubt.
That gray horse looks like it's singing?? lolI saw those horses and had to laugh. Especially the rearing one. That horse simply looks plump like a chubby lady. A hoot.
Thanks for the vote of faith in me. I'll do what I can. It would be great by summer. I don't know if I can do it though by summer. I'll be working it.
